What is Digital Transformation...

Still many of us don’t exactly know what the digital transformation is. Because we do have also the different views on Digital transformation. We are business man, engineer, developer, designer, marketer, sales man, manufacturer as we are all a professional in around many kinds of industries. 

Even I am who work over last 10 years on technology and business area in many industries but did not manage to convince why your company needs Digital transformation why your industry haven’t yet to reach that level that we can call the innovation, breakthrough or transformed from tradition. So now…which of the way is most appropriate to us to understand Digital Transformation and how to actualize it into our organization. 

We all work in many industries like Pharmaceutical, Information Technology, Service industry, Supply Chain, Manufacturer and so on. But have every different view on that in reality.

In a dictionary, it says the Digital Transformation is that to innovate the traditional social structure by applying the digital itself. Which digital can be IOT, Cloud, AI, Bigdata solution.

However, does this mean that we didn’t do that? We are actually doing that already, aren’t we? 

We did to develop the process…automated process…optimized process…right? by using computing power, new technology.

Digital transformation does not mean that technology must be used.

Not that only automate the current business process in your organization but to also change your business model itself so that be able to create new business value which has ever exist on yours.

For example, when considering Delivery service, its speed and safety with lower cost may affect their business success or failure. We did improved computer power, simplified the process on the delivery system between manufacturer and buyer, and did automated it, training to employees, optimization of number of trucks depending on the volume of orders, route…etc.

However when Drone comes it is changing all of these on that. One day we wouldn’t longer need even a truck. Which means that also no need the gas, driver, insurance for car accident, insurance for employee and so on.

But it’s not the same way on Pharmaceutical / Medical industry. When it comes Blood Glucose Monitoring device developed for a pregnant woman so it seemingly absolutely will help people to diagnose Blood Glucose level themselves at home, however, the government actually rejected to allow it in a market at first because it wasn’t that familiar or was very unpleasant approach to doctors and hospitals. Its approach was seen like acting an alternative method to monitor Blood Glucose instead of visiting a doctor and having a consulting by paying examination fee to them. So about 10 years it wasted a time until people can buy that device.

And if I say another example on startup business on this who is now starting to do business globally.

One of startup companies in AUS, they applied AI technology on healthcare area. They are developing AI platform which is able to reduce medical human error on selecting an embryo for in-vitro fertilization. Not to mention that many women in the world have infertility issue and its medical treatment is very expensive and no woman no family want to get that experience twice for selecting embryos. If a doctor fails the treatment then women have to do that treatment procedure again for success.

In this procedure however, a doctor manually selects the embryos through the microscope for it. So nobody guarantees a body condition or daily feel of that doctor is the best in that day so that selected the best embryo. In this perspective, AI technology analyzing the high-density images of embryos pre-selects the candidates for that and let finally doctors select the best those from them. Which means that its main purpose is to reduce the human error as much as possible we a human could make. Indeed also that startup company completed the clinical trial and its result shows much higher success rate after AI’s pre-selection.
